“There was trouble afoot in the form of German Potato Salad.
I walked up to the former Moose Lodge and the trouble had a distinct odour. I snuck up as close as I could to the brain trust as they pondered the potato salad catastrophe.
“Can we salvage any of it?” Grand Poohbah Phillip Lockwood said as he looked at three rank and file members. They stared back at him with vacant eyes. Oh wait, was it Governor Poohbah Lockwood? I could never keep it straight since the Moose Lodge continued to go through name changes.”
It is one catastrophe after another in this book, with Marzie Nowak and her coven partly to blame for some of it! Is it just me, or does naming a festival – the Testicle Festival – just asking for trouble? And this is just the beginning…
If you haven’t read my previous posts in this Book Review Series, please read the first post HERE before continuing. The first post is where I introduce you to the very talented American author – Rebecca Regnier, and by reading the posts in order, you will better understand what I am talking about here.
Otherwise, please read on…
Independently published on Amazon in September 2019, Curse Strings continues the story of Marzie Nowak and her growing coven. Not only is there a Testicle Festival taking place in town, Marzie’s boss unexpectedly shows up with his own problems, and Tatum ends up in hot water. Now the coven must find a way to hijack the festival and celebrate Beltane properly before things get any worse.
Please see the blurb from Rebecca’s book Curse Strings below.
“The empty nest just got crowded!
Her birds had flown the coop. Her nest was empty, but her life was full! Her job, her friends, even her dating life was magical for this witch. Then overnight her nest is about to get very crowded and a new murder will turn this witch every which way!
Things SEEMED in place for local reporter and empty nest witch Marzie Nowak. Broom, check. Wand, check. Coven, check. Vampire boyfriend? Checkity check check! But things aren’t what they appear. Everything about her life is about to turn upside down. From a surprise visit from her boss to the re-upping of her mom duties Marzie is just trying to keep it together. But then murder and a betrayal force Marzie to make a terrible choice and catch a killer before she loses everything.
A coven will be put to the test and so will Marzie’s washing machine in the next instalment of Widow’s Bay. Murder, spells, hot werewolves, a bossy cat, and a town festival that literally drops the ball on this magical town will keep you laughing, guessing and wishing you could move in!”
“The next day, the festival was in full swing, and there were hundreds of people, once again in Widow’s Bay. This time, instead of a sampling of witches and magic, they were getting testicles and gizzards.”
I have enjoyed reading all the books in the Widow’s Bay series, and with witty phrases, such as “…the [Testicle] festival was in full swing…”, this book made me chuckle. As I have said previously, all the books in this series are well written with great characters – some you’ll like, some you won’t. But I promise that you will enjoy this book as much as the others. Rebecca has the wonderful ability of being able to continue to come up with fresh adventures for her characters that will keep you entertained.
Add this to your growing ‘To Read’ list for the upcoming holiday season. I am looking forward to reading the next instalment from Widow’s Bay: Intermittent Casting.
