Best Blog for Editors and Writers

As some of you may know if you’ve read previous posts, I recently completed an undergraduate course in Creative and Professional Writing through Griffith University in Queensland. (Click HERE to read the first post if you haven’t read them yet.)

One of the tasks we were assigned, was to write about our favourite blog and explain why.

One of my favourite blogs is by Louise Harnby. Louise is an accredited copy editor and proofreader in the UK. She specialises in Indie fiction authors and academic papers. I don’t even remember how I first found her website; I was probably googling something and one of her posts appeared in the search results.

I love this woman’s blog! I was lucky enough to find Louise’s site early in my journey as a newbie freelance copy editor and proofreader. Her site has been an invaluable resource ever since. Louise has written so many posts over the years, that I still haven’t had a chance to read them all. She shares her wisdom regarding becoming an editor and proofreader, starting one’s own freelance business, applying for work with publishing houses … the list goes on. Without her help, I don’t think I would have gotten as far as I have.

Louise not only writes a blog, but she also delivers podcasts with a fellow editor and proofreader Denise Cowle. Denise specialises in business documentation. I have found these podcasts very helpful because I specialise in both fiction and business documentation. The pair also supply transcripts of each podcast which come in handy for referencing later and saves me having to write copious notes while listening. I find the mix of blog posts and podcasts keeps things interesting.

Louise not only offers help to budding copy editors and proofreaders, but she also supplies a lot of information for Indie authors. I quite often read these posts also, I believe they can help me as well.

I think a big part of Louise’s blog’s appeal for me is the way she writes (and speaks in her podcasts). She comes across as knowledgeable and professional, but friendly and down to earth.

Whether you are a writer or an editor and proofreader, you will find invaluable information and advice on Louise’s blog. If you are interested in listening to Louise and Denise’s podcast, you can go to either of the lovely lady’s websites, the official ‘The Editing Podcast’ Facebook page, or search your favourite platform such as Spotify.
